Black Board-and-Batten Done Right: The Adam’s Road Exterior

17 August 2026 — Education, Showcase

Completed black board-and-batten exterior with crisp soffit detailing.

New siding is the fastest way to make a house look completely different. But on Adam’s
Road, the striking black finish is only half the story. The half you can’t see — the
insulation and air-sealing underneath — is what makes this exterior perform through a
Northern Ontario winter.

Start with the envelope, not the siding

Continuous exterior insulation board with a taped, flashed window opening before siding.

Before a single piece of siding went up, we wrapped the walls in continuous rigid
insulation
(Atlas EnergyShield) and carefully flashed and taped every window and seam.

Why this matters up here:

  • Continuous insulation wraps the whole wall in an unbroken thermal blanket, reducing

the “thermal bridging” that lets heat escape through the framing.
  • Proper window flashing and taped seams keep water and drafts out — the two things

that quietly destroy walls and heating bills over a Northern Ontario winter.

This is the part homeowners never see and cheap jobs skip. It’s also where a wall either
lasts for decades or starts failing in a few years.

Then the siding that turns heads

Black vertical metal board-and-batten siding being installed on scaffolding.

Over the sealed envelope, we installed black vertical metal siding in a modern
board-and-batten profile, finished with a matching black vented soffit. The vertical lines
make the home look taller and cleaner, and metal siding shrugs off snow, sun and moisture
with almost no maintenance.

Why black metal siding is a smart Northern Ontario choice

  • Low maintenance. No repainting, no rot — just the occasional rinse.
  • Durable. Metal handles freeze-thaw, ice and UV better than most alternatives.
  • Modern curb appeal. The black board-and-batten look is timeless and instantly

    upscale.
  • Pairs with a real envelope. Great siding over great insulation = comfort and

    looks.

FAQ

Is metal siding noisy or hot?
Installed over proper sheathing and insulation like we do, no — the wall assembly keeps it
quiet and comfortable.

Can you re-side and re-insulate my existing home?
Yes. Exterior retrofits with added insulation are one of the best upgrades for an older
Northern Ontario home.

Can I finance an exterior renovation?
Yes — apply in minutes at financeit.ca/s/WpxfsA.
