A deck is where Northern Ontario summers actually happen — morning coffee, evening campfires, the whole family on a long weekend. But our climate is hard on outdoor structures. Frost, snow load and big temperature swings will find every shortcut. This Papineau-area deck was built to shrug all of that off.
Starting from the ground up

Good decks start below the surface. We set solid footings and posts, then built a level, properly-spaced joist system tied cleanly to the house. Get the structure right and the deck stays flat, solid and squeak-free for decades — no bounce, no sag after the first frost heave.
Surface and finish

With the frame squared away, we laid the decking and set the posts for railings. The result is a big, usable raised platform that turns an unused strip of yard into the best room in the house — outdoors.

Choosing deck materials for our climate
A few things we talk through with every deck client:
- Structure first. Proper footings and framing matter more than any board you put on top. This is what fails first when a deck is built cheap.
- Material trade-offs. Pressure-treated is budget-friendly and proven; composite costs more up front but shrugs off UV and moisture with less maintenance. We’ll walk you through what fits your budget and how much upkeep you want to sign up for.
- Plan for snow. Ledger flashing, fastener choice and drainage all matter when your deck spends months under snow.
When should you book a deck?
The best decks get booked in late winter and early spring for summer completion. Spots fill fast once the snow melts, so planning ahead means you’re relaxing on your new deck by the first long weekend — not waiting until fall.
